Hans works in various types of stone such as marble, alabaster, serpentine and Belgian bluestone, but he is no stranger to wander into selenite and soapstone. When it comes to a rough stone, Hans is usually guided by the stone. It then becomes an exploration in which a shape or figure is created during the process. A sketch or clay figure serves as a model if it is a sawn piece of stone. Ideas can sometimes appear as a pop-up in the head.
